The Screen Innovation Production Fund will give priority to moving-image art projects that are innovative, risky and experimental in nature.
For filmmakers applying to Screen Innovation for the first time, it is recommended projects with a budget of less than $15,000 be submitted.
Short films offer emerging filmmakers an excellent opportunity to hone their skills in the craft of storytelling using sound and moving-image and, in addition, often result in the establishment of creative teams that continue to work together for years over many projects. The intensive process of filmmaking depends on solid relationships to succeed.
Short films are also pivotal in securing support for those filmmakers intent on eventually making feature films - a "calling card" to show the work a filmmaker is capable of, especially the director.
Short films are also a big part of the collection held by the Film Archives that can be viewed on the premises free of charge: www.nzfa.org.nz
Short films (along with NZ music and music videos) are also available on the Loop label sold at music shops. www.loopselect.com
